Volunteer with CTYP
We invite you to join the CTYP Volunteer Family
Next Volunteer Opportunity:
The Velveteen Rabbit: March 2-25, 2018
Volunteers are an integral part of Carousel Theatre for Young People’s family. Each year, volunteers contribute over 1,500 hours to CTYP – and we are so grateful for their assistance and support!
Being a volunteer is an excellent opportunity for high school students and young adults to gain working experience (letters of reference with total hours volunteered may be requested). Volunteer shifts are generally 3-4 hours in length, but may vary depending on the activity. Note, all volunteer opens are posted above.
Carousel Theatre for Young People Volunteer Requirements
- Must be 16 years or older (Sidekicks ages 9-15)
- You must commit to a minimum of three volunteer shifts
- Fluent in English
- Submit a Criminal Record Check
Volunteer Ushers are requested to sign up for a minimum of three usher shifts during the run of a performance. Usher shifts are approximately 3 hours.
Volunteer Sidekicks are our volunteer heroes-in-training! At CTYP, we’re all about inspiring the love of theatre in young people. Kids ages 9 and up now have the opportunity to become a hero-in-training with our volunteer Sidekick Program! Alongside their parent or guardian, Sidekicks are volunteer ushers at one of our shows. Help rip tickets, show patrons to their seats, hand out programs and more. Grown-Ups: fill out the volunteer application form for yourself and indicate that you have a Sidekick that will be accompanying you on your shift.
Administrative Volunteers assist with general office duties including data entry, mailouts, answering general inquiries and light errands. Office volunteers are required to have basic computer skills and a solid command of the English language.
Production Volunteers vary depending on the unique needs of each play and the skill set of our volunteers. Volunteers assist with sewing duties in our Costume Shop, ‘Lightwalking’ during focusing and programming and painting sets. During our annual Teen Shakespeare Program, volunteers assist backstage and onsite with lighting, set, costumes, props and more.
Special Events Volunteers provide support in a variety of ways from door greeting, bussing, bartending and more. Carousel hosts a variety of special events throughout the year and are always looking for extra hands.
