Ticket FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much do tickets cost?

Tickets are $35.00/adults, $29.00/students and seniors, and $18.00/young people.

2. Where are you located?

Carousel Theatre for Young People is located on Granville Island in Vancouver. Our administration offices, theatre school and rehearsal studios are located at 1411 Cartwright Street on Granville Island, right across the street from the Waterfront Theatre, where we stage our Literary Classics Program. ** Please note: The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favourites will be performed at The Norman and Annette Rothstein Theatre.

3. Is there parking near your theatre?

Yes, there is parking. Granville Island has several pay parking lots and many free parking spots that are available for a maximum of 3 hrs. Granville Island is a popular destination in Vancouver, so do leave yourself plenty of time to find parking. Click here to see a map of Granville Island.

4. What is the running time of your performances?

The actual running time varies depending on the production. Please visit individual play pages for exact running times.

5. Do I need to purchase a ticket for my three year old?

Each of our plays are for a certain age group. Please refer to the specific age policies for each production. Everybody must purchase a ticket. Our productions (with the exception of our new BEE Stage performance of Dot & Ziggy) are not suitable for children under the age of 3 years, and some of our productions are not suitable for children under the age of 6 years. The live theatre experience, which includes a dark auditorium, bright lights, and sound effects, can be overwhelming for some children.

Babes in arms are not permitted in the theatre, out of courtesy to our audiences and our actors.

6. What are All Ages Performances?

We recognize that it is sometimes difficult for families to find sitters for their youngest children and that some children under 3 years old may be ready for the live theatre experience, so for certain productions we stage a few designated performances for ALL AGES. For these special performances only, we keep the auditorium lights on at a low level so that little ones are not frightened of the dark, and we stage a slightly softer, gentler version of the production. This season Dot & Ziggy, as well as our outdoor production of Love’s Labour’s Lost, are All Ages.

7. Can I exchange my tickets for another performance?

Yes. We will happily exchange tickets purchased directly through our Box Office for another performance of the same show. Please note: we require 24 hrs advance notice, and all exchanges are subject to availability. There is a nominal fee of $5 (per order) for exchanges.

8. Do children perform in your productions?

Carousel Theatre for Young People’s Literary Classics Productions are performed by professional adult actors. Occasionally, there may be a child actor in the cast depending on the production. These children are also professional actors. This year James and the Giant Peach features a child actor in the lead role of James Henry Trotter.

9. What are your office hours?

Our administrative offices are open for ticket sales Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM. The Box Office at The Waterfront Theatre opens 1 hour prior to showtime.

10. Do you have wheelchair seating?

Yes. We do have wheelchair seating for our performances. Please let our Box Office know your seating needs at the time of your booking

11. My schedule has changed. Can I get a refund on my tickets?

All ticket sales are final. As long as you contact us at least 24 hrs prior to the date of your performance, we will happily exchange your tickets for another performance of the same show. An exchange fee of $5 applies on the order.

12. How do you find your actors?

Carousel Theatre for Young People is a professional theatre company, and we hire actors who are members of the Canadian Actors Equity Association under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement. Each June, Artistic Director Carole Higgins holds general auditions for the upcoming season. Play specific auditions are held by invitation only. If you would like to be considered for an audition please mail your headshot, resume and cover letter or email it to auditions@carouseltheatre.ca.

13. How can I get involved?

We welcome volunteers! If you have some extra time and would like to usher, assist with mailouts, or help with fundraising activities, please give us a call, or visit the Volunteer page on our website by clicking here. You can also get involved by becoming a Member of Carousel Theatre Society.

14. Where do you recommend for dinner?

The Keg on Granville Island! It is located a short 5 minutes walk from the theatre. It is a great place for families with kids of all ages. The food and service is always a joy and they will ensure your meal is on time so you make it to the theatre with plenty of time before the curtain call.
