Carousel Theatre for Young People inspires young people, families and artists with playful, accessible theatrical experiences which strive for artistic excellence. We support and educate emerging artists and audiences while enriching their hearts and minds. Each season approximately 40 000 young people and their families benefit from CTYP’s diverse programming and activities, which include a Mainstage season of Literary Classics, a summer Teen Shakespeare Program, and a year-round Theatre School for young people aged 3 to 17 years. Located in the cultural hub of Granville Island, Carousel Theatre is the largest mainstage TYA company in British Columbia.</p>
<p>Job description:<br />
Reporting to the Artistic &#038; Managing Director, the Production Designer will create a cohesive costume, set and properties design for the Teen Shakespeare Program’s production of Hamlet that reflects the Victorian Gothic theme that will be explored. The Designer will work with the director, stage manager and teen actors to create a design that will engage audiences while being easy to maintain.</p>
<p>The position is full-time (35 hours/week) from June 3, 2013 – July 27, 2013. The position is contingent upon funding.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:<br />
•	Create stage elements that aide in telling the story of the play<br />
•	Create and fully realize, from initial sketch to completed outfit, a costume design for each character<br />
•	Procure and make all hand properties required for the action on the stage<br />
•	Recruit and oversee volunteer stitchers and painters as needed to aide in realizing the design aspects<br />
•	Other duties as required</p>
<p>Qualifications:<br />
•	Experience and/or training in production design<br />
•	Excellent communication skills<br />
•	Ability to take initiative, thrive in a busy team environment and work flexible hours<br />
•	Driver’s license is an asset<br />
•	Criminal record check is mandatory</p>
<p>This position is contingent on funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program which requires candidates to:<br />
•	Be legally entitled to work in Canada;<br />
•	Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada<br />
•	Be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment<br />
•	Be a full-time student who is returning to full-time studies in the fall<br />
•	Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment<br />
•	Not have another full-time job<br />
•	Not be attending full-time classes while carrying out this job</p>

<p>Job description:<br />
Reporting to the General Manager, the Marketing &#038; Outreach Coordinator is responsible for developing and executing a marketing and outreach plan for the Summer Teen Shakespeare Program, focusing on engaging new audience members in the teenage demographic. This year’s production is Hamlet. </p>
<p>The position is full-time (35 hours/week) from June 17, 2013 – August 11, 2013. Evenings and weekends will be required. The position is contingent upon funding.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:<br />
•	Devise a marketing strategy for engaging new audiences in the teenage demographic incorporating a variety of media including, but not limited to, social media and print<br />
•	Develop branding for the program<br />
•	Plan and execute a podcast series<br />
•	Maintain social media presence throughout the summer<br />
•	Plan and execute an interactive media component on-site during the run<br />
•	Create marketing collateral, including posters, banners, rack cards, other signage<br />
•	Oversee distribution of collateral<br />
•	Create a press kit, including photographs, a press release and story pitches to local media<br />
•	Assist with recruitment and management of volunteers<br />
•	Assist with Front of House duties<br />
•	Create and execute an audience survey<br />
•	Compile marketing statistics<br />
•	Prepare a final report<br />
•	Other duties as required</p>
<p>Qualifications:<br />
•	Experience in marketing, communications/publicity, multi-media or related field<br />
•	Excellent communication skills, strong writing skills<br />
•	Proficiency in various social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite &#038; Microsoft Office<br />
•	Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking abilities<br />
•	Ability to take initiative, thrive in a busy team environment and work flexible hours<br />
•	Interest in working in the arts sector<br />
•	Knowledge of the non-profit sector an asset</p>

<p>Job description:<br />
Reporting to the Artistic &#038; Managing Director, the Production Stage Manager coordinates and oversees the execution of the Teen Shakespeare Program, organizes and coordinates rehearsals and performances, liases with the director and other Carousel staff and acts as supervisor to the group of teen actors for the duration of the program.</p>
<p>The position is full-time (35 hours/week) from June 24, 2013 – August 11, 2013. Evenings and weekends will be required. The position is contingent upon funding.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:<br />
•	Create and distribute schedules<br />
•	Liaise between program departments including set, costumes, sound, lighting, stage management and program instructors<br />
•	Distribute information to other theatre departments<br />
•	Compile and operate prompt copy (noting changes to the set between scene changes, prompting actors and cueing technicians)<br />
•	Ensure the company’s welfare<br />
•	Maintain good working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practice<br />
•	Run the backstage and onstage areas during performances<br />
•	Other duties as required</p>
<p>Qualifications:<br />
•	Experience in stage management<br />
•	Excellent communication skills<br />
•	Detail-oriented<br />
•	Proficient in Microsoft Office<br />
•	Ability to take initiative, thrive in a busy team environment and work flexible hours<br />
•	First aid level one is an asset<br />
•	Driver’s license is an asset<br />
•	Comfortable with light manual labour<br />
•	Criminal record check is mandatory</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Teen Shakespeare Program 2013 &#8211; HAMLET</p>
<p>Program Dates: July 1- August 10, 2013</p>
<p>Rehearsals: July 1-23; Monday to Friday from 10 am – 4 pm</p>
<p>Technical Rehearsals: July 24, 25 &amp; 26 from 10 am – 10 pm</p>
<p>Performances: July 27 &#8211; August 10, Monday- Saturday @ 7:30 PM.<br /> Teen actors will be required to arrive at the theatre 1.5 hrs prior to show time.</p>
<p>Performances take place at the Performance Works Outdoor Stage on Granville Island, and are FREE.<br /> ***It is important that teen actors be available for ALL rehearsals and performances.</p>
<p>Program Cost for Participants: $725</p>
<p>The program is an excellent training opportunity for teen actors ages 13-17 yrs. Teen actors will receive training in classical voice for the stage, Shakespeare text, movement, and character development under the tutelage of instructors who are members for Vancouver’s professional theatre community. This year we are staging a gothic retelling of HAMLET &#8211; Shakespeare&#8217;s tragedy.</p>
<p>Admission to the program is by audition. The audition dates are Sunday, April 14 from 11 am-4 pm OR Wednesday, April 17 from 4-7pm</p>
<p>For the audition, teens will need to prepare:<br /> • 1 Modern monologue of their choice, no longer than 2 minutes in length<br /> • 1 Shakespeare monologue of their choice, no longer than 2 minutes in length</p>
<p>Teens will also need to bring a headshot (or school photo) and a résumé that lists previous theatre and dance training, performance experience and special skills (ie. Ballet, tap, karate, musical abilities).</p>
