By now hundreds of families have seen our production of The Taming of the Shrew – we hope you’re one of the many people who have enjoyed our show. We’re excited to be posting interviews with our teen actors, as we know we will be seeing more of them in the future as they go on to do great things! Meet Alison Knight, one of our 16 up-and-coming actors. She’s a TSP veteran, Carousel Theatre volunteer, and all around amazing gal. Here’s what she had to say about her experience this summer!
Tell us about yourself, Alison!
My name is Alison Knight, I just celebrated my 17th birthday and am about to start my final year at Collingwood School. I’ve been acting since I was 10 years old and been a Shakespeare freak about as long.
What role do you play in The Taming of the Shrew?
I’m playing Grumio, she’s really the clown of the show. Very silly a bit raunchy, tons of fun to play! She puts on this totally false tough tom boy front but really she’s a chicken! I love this character, I can whole heartedly say it’s the most fun I’ve ever had on stage!
What is your favorite thing about the Teen Shakespeare?
I have to pick one? Oh god. Well I love the people, I know it sounds corny but I’ve made life long friends here! But I think the BEST part for me is learning Shakespeare in this totally silly yet professional environment! Why can’t English class be more like TSP?
What is the most challenging thing about Teen Shakespeare?
Well, this year its staying on track! In most shows I find that I have to always remind myself not to take it to seriously, its called a “play” after all! But that is NOT this case for this production, many, many times during rehearsal I have to say to myself “Alison, calm down, focus!”
