CTYP’s teen actors take the stage in this epic tragedy of two star-crossed lovers. What’s in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. This timeless and timely tale explores the themes of love and hate, and how prejudice can tear our worlds apart. The Teen Shakespeare Program is CTYP’s quintessential training program for pre-professional actors; come see the stars of tomorrow on our stage today. All ages are welcome.
Romeo and Juliet is an all ages performance and a wonderful introduction to Shakespeare for kids of all ages!
What to Expect: This production features some on-stage violence and stays true to the tragic Shakespearean ending, the death of Romeo and Juliet.
The Teen Shakespeare Program
The Teen Shakespeare program is a nationally recognized pre-professional training program for actors aged 13-18. Teen actors receive training in Shakespeare text, movement, classical voice and character development. Designed for those interested in pursuing a career in theatre, the program can serve as a springboard for those going on to study in conservatory programs. TSP graduates work in Canada, the USA, and internationally in theatre, film and television.
For 26 summers, Carousel Theatre for Young People’s Teen Shakespeare Program has been providing pre-professional theatre training to teens 13-18 in an intensive six-week program. The program provides an opportunity for participants to enhance their performing abilities and further their development as emerging artists while providing the community with free and accessible theatre.
Over the years, many participants have gone on to grace some of Canada’s top stages including the Stratford Festival, Canstage, The Belfry Theatre, Bard on the Beach, and the Arts Club Theatre Company. Some of the program’s notable alumni include actor Jennifer Paterson, director Jack Paterson, and CTYP’s own Artistic Director, Carole Higgins. Actors Rebecca Auerbach, Susan Coodin, Alessandro Juliani, and Vancouver-West End MLA Spencer Chandra-Herbert also have early roots with the program.
The Teen Shakespeare Program is an excellent training opportunity for teen actors ages 13-18 yrs. Teen actors will receive training in classical voice for the stage, Shakespeare text, movement, and character development under the tutelage of instructors who are members for Vancouver’s professional theatre community.
Admission to the program is by audition, held in January of each year. For more information, e-mail email@example.com
