          JOB POSTING: Audience Services Coordinator
          Teen Shakespeare Program 2015/16

          Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) is an award-winning Theatre for Young Audiences company in Vancouver, BC. Each season more than 40,000 young people and their families benefit from CTYP’s distinctive programming. CTYP produces a Mainstage Season of Literary Classics, a Teen Shakespeare Program, a year-round Drama School for Young People (ages 3 to 17 years) and a community facility rental program. CTYP plays a unique role in the theatre ecology of our community; it is the only theatre company in BC that produces a fully professional season of Mainstage programming especially for young people.

          Carousel Theatre for Young People welcomes applications for the position of Audience Services Coordinator for the summer Teen Shakespeare Program. This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position and the successful candidate must meet the criteria of the program as listed below.

          Role Description
          Reporting to the Managing Director, the Audience Services Coordinator is responsible for developing and executing a marketing and outreach plan for the Teen Shakespeare Program, focusing on creatively engaging new audience members over the summer. This year’s production is Henry V. The position is full-time (35 hours/week) from June 15, 2015 – August 21, 2015. Evenings and weekends will be required.

          Responsibilities:

          • Devise a marketing strategy for engaging new audiences with the Teen Shakespeare Program incorporating a variety of media including, but not limited to, social media and print
          • Maintain social media presence throughout the summer
          • Plan and execute an interactive component for audience members on-site during the run
          • Plan and execute a podcast series and/or other audience engagement activities for the 25th anniversary of the Teen Shakespeare Program
          • Manage distribution of print collateral
          • Create a press kit, including photographs, a press release and story pitches to local media
          • Recruit and manage volunteers
          • Assist with Front of House duties
          • Compile marketing statistics, create marketing and publicity archive, update tracking spreadsheets
          • Prepare a final report
          • Other duties as required

          Qualifications:

          • Experience in marketing, communications/publicity, theatre or related field
          • Excellent communication skills, strong writing skills
          • Proficiency in various social media platforms including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube;
          • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, and Photoshop are an asset.
          • Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking abilities
          • Ability to take initiative, thrive in a busy team environment and work flexible hours
          • Displays professionalism and maturity
          • Interest in working in the arts sector
          • Knowledge of the non-profit sector an asset

          This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program which requires candidates to:

          • Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
          • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
          • Be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment
          • Be a full-time student who is returning to full-time studies in the fall
          • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
          • Not have another full-time job
          • Not be attending full-time classes while carrying out this job

          JOB POSTING: Assistant Stage Manager
          Teen Shakespeare Program 2015/16

          Organization description:
          Carousel Theatre for Young People provides playful, exceptional and accessible theatrical experiences that inspire, involve and educate. Each season approximately 40 000 young people and their families benefit from CTYP’s diverse programming and activities, which include a Mainstage season of Literary Classics, a summer Teen Shakespeare Program, and a year-round Theatre School for young people aged 3 to 17 years. Located in the cultural hub of Granville Island, Carousel Theatre for Young People is the largest mainstage TYA company in British Columbia.

          Job description:
          Reporting to the Stage Manager, the Associate Stage Manager assists in the coordination of the Teen Shakespeare Program, organizing rehearsals and performances, liaising with the director and other Carousel staff and acts as supervisor to the group of teen actors for the duration of the program. The position is full-time (35 hours/week) from June 15, 2015 – August 14, 2015. Evenings and weekends will be required.

          Responsibilities:

          • Create and distribute schedules, running lists and other paperwork with the Stage Manager
          • Liaise between program departments including set, costumes, sound, lighting, stage management and program instructors
          • Distribute information to other theatre departments
          • Properties procurement and making of properties as required
          • Properties maintenance throughout the performance run
          • Ensure the company’s welfare
          • Maintain good working knowledge of all relevant health and safety legislation and good working practice
          • Run the backstage area during performances, supervising and executing scene changes, quick changes
          • Other duties as required

          Qualifications:

          • Previous experience in stage management and running crews
          • Previous experience making properties
          • Excellent communication skills
          • Detail-oriented
          • Proficient in Microsoft Office
          • Ability to take initiative, thrive in a busy team environment and work flexible hours
          • Lighting and sound experience is an asset
          • First aid level one is an asset
          • Driver’s license is an asset

          • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada
          • Be between 15-30 years of age at the start of employment
          • Be a full-time student who is returning to full-time studies in the fall
          • Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment

          • Not be attending full-time classes while carrying out this job
