About Carousel Theatre for Young People
Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) provides playful, exceptional, and accessible theatrical experiences that inspire, involve, and educate. Each season approximately 40,000 young people and their families benefit from CTYP’s diverse programming and activities, which include a professional Mainstage season, The Bee Stage for very young audiences, the Teen Shakespeare Program, and a robust year-round Drama School and Drama Camps for young people.
CTYP welcomes applications for the position of Education & Outreach Manager. This is a full-time, salaried position. Evening and weekend work will be required when drama school is in session, as well as during showcases and open-houses, special events, and openings.
Role Description
The Education & Outreach Manager (EOM) leads CTYP’s School Matinee Program, Drama School for Young People, and outreach programs. Reporting to the Co-Artistic & Managing Directors, the EOM is responsible for the smooth operations and coordination of CTYP’s education programs, building and strengthening associated relationships. The EOM collaborates with the Co-AMDs to develop long-term curriculum goals.
The EOM plays a pivotal role in expanding the scope, quality, and impact of CTYP’s educational programming and providing an exceptional patron and student experience. The EOM will ensure the smooth operations and coordination of CTYP education, outreach, and drama school activities, including activities as they pertain to Teen Shakespeare, CTYP Drama School, and educational tools including family activity guides, school matinee resource guides, and visual stories.
Primary Accountabilities
Drama School and Outreach
- Facilitate and process drama school registrations
- Be the primary point of contact for Drama School activities
- Meet sales goals of the portfolio and execute marketing plans in collaboration with Marketing & Communications Manager
- Build and foster new relationships with parents and young people
- Organize and execute end-of-semester showcases
- Being on standby as needed to step in as an associate for CTYP Drama School
- Liaise between faculty and parents
- Contract and oversee Drama School faculty
- In collaboration with Co-AMDs, develop and implement program curriculum
School Matinee Program
- Research and develop curriculum tie-ins for mainstage programming
- Meet sales goals of the portfolio by initiating and executing specific school matinee marketing plans, regular communication, and building relationships
- Develop resource guides for educators for each production
- Prepare booking contracts/invoices and track payments
- Act as Primary Patron Contact and CTYP’s representative at school matinees
- Coordinating logistics with schools in advance of and during performances
- Maintain tracking and reporting systems
Education and Outreach
- Develop, coordinate and expand professional outreach workshops for educators and/or young people
- Create written copy and activities for educational companions to artistic programming, including resource guides, visual stories, synopsis, and pre and post-performance engagement activities;
- Contribute content to CTYP’s social media channels connected to education and outreach activities, in collaboration with the Marketing & Communications Manager
- Contribute to strategic planning for the growth and impact of the department
Operations - Support box office sales and facilities rentals as needed
- General operational and other duties as required, including the Teen Shakespeare Program, fundraising
General Responsibilities
- Collaborate with CTYP team members to further CTYP’s mission: to empower young people through live theatre experiences as part of forward-visioning for the company
- Work to uphold organizational values of playfulness, accessibility, artistic integrity, empathy, mentorship, and community
- Act as the liaison between CTYP and teachers/educators in the BC Education System
- Continue to cultivate relationships with teachers as key organizational stakeholders, and informing teachers of CTYP activities and initiatives;
- Cultivate and strengthen CTYP’s relationships with community groups and family-focused organizations;
- Participate in workshops, webinars, and community conversations as they pertain to education practices, drama school practices, health and safety, and theatre for young audiences;
- Research as needed;
- Be a key, collaborative member of the team
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years experience in administration, education, the arts, or equivalent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving ability, and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain long-term relationships
- Works effectively in teams, and is motivated to work independently in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
- Experience working with young people and families
- Experience working with Theatre Manager software (training can be provided)

- First aid training (CTYP to provide)
Salary Range
- $37-40,000 plus extended health benefits after probation period
- Start date: Feb. 22, 2022
