We are a professional theatre company, and as a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, we engage professional actors, directors, choreographers, and stage members under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement.

Most of the actors, directors and choreographers we work with are members of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association. We also work with designers, many of whom are members of Associated Designers of Canada. Many of our playwrights are members of Playwrights Guild of Canada, and many of our technicians are members of IATSE.

THE PAPA PENGUIN PLAY by Dave Deveau

Carousel Theatre is holding auditions for their co-production with the Vancouver International Children's Festival, in association with Zee Zee Theatre, the family musical The Papa Penguin Play, by Dave Deveau, directed by Cameron Mackenzie at the Waterfront Theatre.


Penguins Peaches and Izzy are the Zoo's main attraction: two male penguins who put on daily shows to visitors' delight. But when other penguin couples lay eggs and go on to have a chick, these two pine for parenting life. With the help from the Zoo Keeper, dreams do come true. The Papa Penguin Play welcomes audiences of all ages to a penguin chick first birthday party, a celebration like you've never seen. Co-commissioned by Carousel Theatre for Young People and the Vancouver International Children's Festival. Recommended for All Ages

Auditions will be held in person at Carousel Theatre (Studio B) 1411 Cartwright Street
Masks will be optional during the audition but mandatory in common spaces.

Character Breakdown
PEACHES: A penguin dad living in a Zoo with his partner Izzy and daughter Hedgehog. Together they are a glorious clown duo and perform daily drag shows for tourists. Where Izzy plays high status, Peaches plays low status. Yet it's all an act - they are in love.

IZZY: A penguin dad living in a Zoo with his partner Peaches and daughter Hedgehog. Together they are a glorious clown duo and perform daily drag shows for tourists. Izzy always plays high status, but deeply in love with Peaches.

SNOW WHITE by Greg Banks

Carousel Theatre is holding auditions for their holiday show Snow White by Greg Banks, directed by Jennica Grienke at the Waterfront Theatre.

In this clever twist on a beloved fairytale, Snow White takes agency over her story and finally gets to tell the real version - on her own terms with a little help from her friends - well ONE friend. Together a musician and two actors tackle over 14 characters - in this refreshing feminist retelling.

Character Breakdown

Snow White:
Snow White is taking agency over her own story, and its ABOUT TIME! She is bold, bossy, kind, curious, trusting and fiercely independent! "Her lips were as red as blood, Her hair as black as the bark of trees, And her heart as pure as snow"

Four:
Four didn't expect to be the only one of the six compatriots to show up - but the once reluctant storyteller soon gets swept up in Snow White's story and is soon equally dedicated to setting the record straight.

COVID - 19 Worksafe Policy
All artists, staff and audiences on our premises are required to be fully vaccinated. Artists will be required to provide proof of vaccination to Carousel Theatre prior to commencing work. Other Covid-19 protocols, such as masking are planned to also be in place and evolve to reflect best recommended practices at the time of production. These protocols will be communicated clearly to artists at the time of offer, and be included in the rider to their contract.

Please Note: Carousel Theatre for Young People’s mainstage productions are performed by professional adult actors. Occasionally, there may be a child actor in the cast depending on the production. These children are also professional actors.
