We are a professional theatre company, and as a member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres, we engage professional actors, directors, choreographers, and stage members under the terms of the Canadian Theatre Agreement.

Most of the actors, directors and choreographers we work with are members of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association. We also work with designers, many of whom are members of Associated Designers of Canada. Many of our playwrights are members of Playwrights Guild of Canada, and many of our technicians are members of IATSE.

AUDITIONS OPEN FOR: STUART LITTLE ADAPTED BY JOSEPH ROBINETTE, DIRECTED BY JENNICA GRIENKE

Carousel Theatre for Young People is holding auditions for their 2025 production of the family musical Stuart Little, adapted by Joseph Robinette, directed by Jennica Grienke at the Waterfront Theatre.

About the show:

This enchanting play, adapted by Joseph Robinette, brings E.B. White's timeless tale to life in this intimate and captivating telling. As Stuart, the endearing little mouse with a great big heart, navigates a world built for humans, the play unfolds with a perfect blend of whimsy and heartwarming moments. Robinette's adaptation skillfully captures the essence of White's original work, highlighting Stuart's courage and resilience in the face of a world not built for such a little mouse. With a delightful mix of humor, adventure, and poignant moments, this play promises an unforgettable theatrical experience for audiences of all ages. Recommended for All Ages

Auditions will be held in person at Carousel Theatre 1411 Cartwright Street on July 29, 30 with possible callbacks on July 31, 2024.

Masks are optional during the audition.

Character Breakdown: 

All roles will be required to sing, move to music, and transform between many different characters - some human and some animal!  (The script is available for reading at CTYP). We welcome submissions from any gender for any role that resonates with you, regardless of historical interpretation.   *breakdown of roles may vary slightly from what is listed and will be confirmed during casting

ACTOR 1/ Mr. Little: The warm-hearted and quirky father of the Little family. A caring and understanding parent who embraces and celebrates Stuart regardless of Stuart being a mouse. The role of Mr. Little requires a sense of warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love, showcasing the strength of family bonds and the power of acceptance.  This role will  require singing. (This actor will also play Malty’s Voice, Angie, Harry (Child #2), Repairman)* 

ACTOR 2/Mrs. Little: is the eccentric yet nurturing and devoted mother of the Little family whose warmth, gentleness, and unshakeable support for her family make her the heart of the household.  This role will  require singing. (This actor will also play   Woman (Voice), Person #1, Dog (2nd), Tige’s Voice, Pigeon, Mary (Child #1))* 

ACTOR 3/Snowbell: Snowbell is the Littles' cunning, sly, and often sarcastic, family cat. Initially resistant to the idea of having a mouse as part of the family, Snowbell develops a sense of acceptance and eventual loyalty. This role requires a balance of humour, wit, and mischievousness, ultimately capturing Snowbell's journey from skepticism to friendship.  This role will  require singing. (This actor will also play George, Dog (1st), Leroy, Mr. Clydesdale, Henry (Child #4))*

ACTOR 4/Dr. Carey/ Margalo: Dr. Carey is a dentist in the bustling city of New York and a friend of Stuart, often helping him out of a sticky situation. Margalo is a beautiful canary and friend of the Little family who upon discovering Snowbell’s desire to eat her makes her flee. This role will  require singing. (This actor will also play Bureau Chief, Person #2, Babette (Voice), Katherine (Child #3))*

Actor 5/Stuart Little: A charming mouse born into a human family, who, despite their small size, has a heart full of bravery and a spirit of adventure. Stuart's intelligence, kindness, and determination make them a standout character, as they navigate a world much larger than themself. This role offers the chance to bring to life a beloved character who inspires audiences with their positivity and resilience. This role will  require singing.

Agents: Bulk submissions will not be accepted. If submitting for your clients, please submit them individually, following the format above.

Please Note: Carousel Theatre for Young People’s mainstage productions are performed by professional adult actors. Occasionally, there may be a child actor in the cast depending on the production. These children are also professional actors.

Though we are not currently actively hiring, CTYP is always open to expanding our roster of Drama School Faculty members.
